BuzzLine: Give Us Your Six-Word Graduation Speech

Mortar Boards

It’s that time of year when college students receive sage words of wisdom from commencement speakers all across the country. While earning a college degree remains a monumental milestone in a person’s life, all isn’t rosy for these newly minted college graduates.

Forbes reports that total student debt is estimated to be around $1 trillion with the average individual owing about $24,000.

However, it’s not all bad news for new graduates. College graduates this spring should have an easier time finding jobs than this past year’s class, according to a new survey from the National Association of Colleges and Employers. In fact, employers responding to the survey said they expect to hire 8.6 percent more graduates from the Class of 2014 for their U.S. operations than they had initially planned; an increase in projected hiring over 2013.

For this week’s BuzzLine, we’re asking you to give us your best commencement address in just six words. It’s easy to wax poetically when you’re given an hour to speak, but can you be profound, insightful and even witty in just six words?  How about:

  • It’s just work. Still have fun.
  • Save your money. Guard your credit.

Who’s up for the challenge? For a little inspiration, here’s a list of what CNBC considers to be the 12 Best Commencement Speeches Ever.

Remember, just six words - no more, no less!

As always, the best response earns a Starbucks gift card. The winner will be announced next week!
